REDBONES - HUB FOR CYCLISTS THIS SUMMER
  • ANNUAL BIKE PARTY on MAY 17
  • TELEVISED ROAD RACES THURSDAY NIGHTS at UNDERBONES
  • FREE BICYCLE VALET PARKING during DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
Somerville, MA - Free parking! Redbones is scheduling its 8th Annual Bike Party and Benefit on Monday, May 17 from 5 - 9 PM and the $10.00 entry fee includes free bicycle valet parking along with a Redbones BBQ sandwich, beverage and raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. 100% of the proceeds go to MassBike and the New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA), two local bicycle advocacy groups.

Over 8 years, Redbones annual Bike Party and Benefit has grown from a small group of devoted cyclists meeting in Underbones, the BBQ joint's downstairs dining room, to a block party outside attracting hundreds of bicycle commuters, couriers, racers and recreational riders. A signature event for the Davis Square BBQ joint, the party is always on the first Monday of Bike to Work Week - the League of American Bicyclists’ national initiative promoting bicycle commuting.

"We are proud that the event has grown in popularity," says Redbones co-owner Robert Gregory, a mountain bike enthusiast, "because it means that we have attracted quality sponsors and now give significant dollars each year to two deserving organizations." Last year NEMBA and MassBike each received $2,000 as a result of entry and raffle ticket sales.

This year's sponsors will each donate a minimum of $200.00 in goods or services. 2004 sponsors are: Ace Wheelworks, Belmont Wheelworks, Alternative Needs Transportation, Harpoon Brewery, Hokey Spokes, Independent Fabrications, Kryptonite Lock Corp., MassBike, NEMBA, Paramount Bicycle Repair, Rubel Bike Maps, Seven Cycles, the Ride Magazine, and Vintage, Inc. Free Bicycle Valet Parking during the Democratic National Convention
Horror stories abound about the disrupted commute on Route 93 south and through North Station during the DNC. Redbones is coming to the rescue by offering free bicycle valet parking Monday, July 26 - Thursday, July 29 starting at 8:00 AM. This service expands on the already existing 6:00 PM - midnight daily schedule (Saturday 1:00 PM - midnight and Sundays 1:00 - 10:00 PM).

"It looks as if commuters will really need relief during the DNC and because of our location, we hope folks will ease their trips by switching to bikes and taking advantage of our free service," says Redbones manager Chris Bol adding, "we’re at the end of the Minuteman Bikeway and near the Davis Square T stop so cyclists can ride in, valet park and hop on the Red Line to their final destination."

Redbones, 55 Chester Street, Somerville, MA, is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner with a late night menu starting at 10:30 PM (11:30 PM Friday and Saturday). Redbones is the home of free Bicycle Valet Parking and free dinner delivery on the Rib Rider - a custom made cargo bike- nightly in Davis Square. For information call 617.628.2200.
