REDBONES RAW BAR FEATURES OYSTERS AND STOUTS FRIDAYS IN MARCH
MARCH BEER DINNER FEATURES STOUTS AND PORTERS

Davis Square, Somerville, MA - Stouts are on tap at Redbones in March, both as a complement to shucked-to-order oysters and as the headlined beer at a Brewers Banquet on Monday, March 29 at 7:00 PM. The dinner is $35.00, tax and gratuity included. For reservations call 617.628.2200. Click here to see what's currently on tap. Updated daily, the list will include stouts as they are tapped in March.

Oysters and Stout: Culinary Companions or a Pub Partnership?
According to beer writer Stephen Beaumont, on his web site worldofbeer.com, oysters and stout are a "heavenly marriage of tastes" however, "there are those who claim that the linkage of oysters and stout comes not from any gastronomic imperative but, rather, from a serendipitous surge in the popularity of both aliments in the pubs of London during the early 1800's." Does it matter? You be the judge. Redbones Raw Bar is the place to put this culinary combination to the taste test and the time is every Friday in March between 6 and 10 PM.

Stouts and Porters: A Brewers Banquet on March 29
As fans of Redbones know, ribs and beer are also a good match. To give the union its due, the March beer dinner pairs ribs, and other Redbones fare, with stouts and porters.

These dark ales had their heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries but the burgeoning interest in American hand crafted beers has made the styles popular again. Several examples will be featured at the dinner including Victory Brewery's (Downington, PA) cask conditioned Storm King Stout; a cask conditioned porter from Smutty Nose Brewery in Portsmouth, NH , a porter aged in a Jack Daniels' barrel from Cambridge Brewery; an Imperial Stout not usually available on draft in this area from Stone Brewery in San Diego; and, representing the UK, RCH Brewery's cask conditioned Old Slug Porter. There will also be speakers on hand to talk about the beers as well as trivia and prizes.

A Primer on Porters - and Stouts
Stouts and porters are dark ales, their deep color a result of being brewed from roasted, unmalted barley. They are also know for their fairly low alcohol content, typically 4.5 - 6% by volume. Though they share characteristics, stout was first used to describe the fuller bodied porters - eventually becoming a distinctive style.
