REDBONES ANNOUNCES ANNUAL OUTSIDE PIG PICKIN'
THIS LITTLE PIGGY RAISES MONEY FOR
THE SOMERVILLE HOMELESS COALITION

Davis Square, Somerville, MA - For the 4th year, Redbones fires up its smoker for a traditional Southern barbecue and fund raiser for The Somerville Homeless Coalition. The event on Monday, August 8, takes place on Chester Street in front of the restaurant from 6 - 9 PM. The meal includes slow smoked pork pulled off the bone with all the fixin's for $20.00 per person. Reservations are requested and may be made by calling 617.628.2200.

Barbecue is what Redbones is all about and the Pig Pickin' gives a glimpse at the process. True barbecue is slow cooking over low heat for a long time - often of a whole animal, frequently a pig. For the August event, a pit master from Redbones will fire up the portable smoker early Monday morning and slow smoke a couple of pigs 'til they're ready for pickin' hours later. Folks are encouraged to stop by any time, take a look see and chat with the pit master.

In addition to the cooking technique, about.com has a second definition of barbecue: "an event or gathering when people come together and celebrate and eat BBQ." Both definitions apply to Redbones fundraiser. Along with smoked pig, the eating includes slaw, macaroni salad, corn on the cob, chips, corn bread, watermelon and a cold drink - your choice of Dr. Pepper, Big Red, lemonade, iced tea or beer. The celebrating is to support The Somerville Homeless Coalition.

About the Somerville Homeless Coalition
In 1985, a group of neighbors, church leaders, and city officials came together to respond to the surge in homelessness in the City of Somerville. This community response resulted in the opening of Somerville's first and only shelter for homeless adult men and women and the formation of the Somerville Homeless Coalition. Today, in addition to our adult shelter, we operate a family shelter, food pantry, community suppers, a case management program, and 3 new permanent housing initiatives.
